The Film Noir 50 Head

A Star is Born…

“Based on the Selmer Truevoice Treble ‘N’ Bass 50 that Syd Barret used on Pink Floyd’s Piper at the Gates of Dawn, the handwired Film Noir 50 is a cool, quirky 50 watt head with a throaty core voice. Chicago-based amp maker Balthazar de Ley uses two EL-34 tubes to power the expertly crafted amp, which interacts with distortion pedals in endlessly fascinating ways, and definitely nails the Syd sound.” Premier Guitar Gear of the Year Awards December 2019

Whether you want an amp that can go from jangly spank to thick lead with a mere turn of your guitar's volume knob, a soulful single channel pedal platform, or an amp that ranges from clean to dirty depending entirely on the force of your picking, the Film Noir 50 delivers expressive dynamic tone at any stage volume, courtesy of the Master and Cut controls.

 Features:

  • 50 watt all-tube combo. Headroom and sweet spot dialed in for the larger stage and high volume gigging.

  • 4, 8, or 16Ω speaker output via switch on rear. Matching flex-back 2x12” cabinet available!

  • 2x12AX7 preamp, 2xEL34 power amp, GZ34 tube rectifier. Tube rectifier and unique power supply = musical compression.

  • Volume, Treble, and Bass controls on the preamp. Responsive tone stack with chime to spare, big bass if you want it.

  • Master and Cut controls to shape volume and tone after the preamp and phase inverter.

  • 120/240V operation via switch on rear. Play your Film Noir 50 anywhere in the world effortlessly!
